Audio Sermon and Bible Message from John and Anne Coles: Healing in the Power of the Holy Spirit. July 5th 2020

Matthew 9:35-38. Rev'd John Coles is Chair of trustees for the New Wine movement and church network. John was Vicar of St Barnabas Church, Finchley, and he led New Wine from 2001-2014. Anne was head of women's ministry for New Wine for a number of years, and she and John continue to teach and train others in ministering in the power of the Holy Spirit. John and Anne were due to come to St Augustine's Highbury to lead a training morning on Healing, the weekend of the St Augustine's 150 years celebration. Due to Coronavirus and lockdown guidelines, John and Anne were unable to be with us physically, but they are still keen to share with us. Thank you so much John and Anne! :-)

We may be going through a pandemic, but the Church is still active!

The following are online resources to help us to worship, connect and grow as followers of Jesus, and meet with our heavenly Father.  Whoever you are, and wherever you are, you are so welcome!

Prayers We Use in a Service: Confessions and Affirmations of Faith

The following Confessions and Affirmations of Faith are the words we sometimes use together during a service as a way of worshipping God.  During this time, they are here for you to use either on your own, or with others in your household, as a way of worshipping our amazing Lord and King.

Confessions

Confession 1.

Let us return to the Lord our God and say to him:

Lord God, we have sinned against you; we have done evil in your sight.

We are sorry and repent.  Have mercy on us according to your love.

Wash away our wrongdoing and cleanse us from our sin.

Renew a right spirit within us and restore us to the joy of your salvation,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Confession 2.

Jesus Christ, risen Master and triumphant Lord,

we come to you in sorrow for our sins,

and confess to you our weakness and unbelief.

We have lived by our own strength, and not by the power of your resurrection.

In your mercy, forgive us.

Lord, hear us and help us.

We have lived by the light of our own eyes, as faithless and not believing.

In your mercy, forgive us.

Lord, hear us and help us.

We have lived for this world alone, and doubted our home in heaven.

In your mercy, forgive us.

Lord, hear us and help us.

Affirmations of Faith

Affirmation of Faith 1.

Do you believe and trust in God the Father,

source of all being and life,

the one for whom we exist?

We believe and trust in him.

Do you believe and trust in God the Son,

who took our human nature,

died for us and rose again?

We believe and trust in him.

Do you believe and trust in God the Holy Spirit,

who gives life to the people of God

and makes Christ known in the world?

We believe and trust in him.

This is the faith of the Church.

This is our faith.
  We believe and trust in one God,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Affirmation of Faith 2.

Let us declare our faith

in the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Christ died for our sins

in accordance with the Scriptures;

he was buried;

he was raised to life on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures;

afterwards he appeared to his followers,

and to all the apostles:

this we have received,

and this we believe.

Amen.

Affirmation of Faith 3.

Let us declare our faith in God.

We believe in God the Father,

from whom every family

in heaven and on earth is named.

We believe in God the Son,

who lives in our hearts through faith,

and fills us with his love.

We believe in God the Holy Spirit,

who strengthens us

with power from on high.

We believe in one God;

Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Affirmation of Faith 4.

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting.

Amen.
